Letter to the People in Poland
We
are the Haida Nation, a small community of Indigenous Peoples living outside the
territorial seas of the west coast of Canada.
We write to thank all the people and governments gathered in Poland for VII
Wiosenne POW WOW Uniejów for speaking out against the killing of BEARS in
British Columbia, Canada. We know that the senseless killing of Bears seems
distant as you face your own difficulties and consider great important matters
that affect the world.
Indigenous People have joined with well reasoned and concerned people and
Nations around the world as all of us are now aware that we disrespect this
planet at our own peril. The time of Prophecy and warning is over and what might
seem to be only a problem created by a strangely inclined provincial government
and men who kill for pleasure is really an issue of survival for people and
sentient beings that make up this wonderful world.
We who live on this small island in the north Pacific are not only welcoming
your voice we are asking for your prayers. Please join us in stopping the
killing of Black bears by expressing your dismay that adult men would leave
their families, travel far and pay money to watch our friends the Bears die.
The best thing people can do is email Premier Gordon Campbell directly and ask
for the trophy hunt on Haida Gwaii to be stopped. His address is premier@gov.bc.ca
and Kevin Olmstead the owner of the hunting licenses, his address is info@prophetmuskwa.com
> and ask him to get out of the business of bear hunting on Haida Gwaii.
